About MyAreaData.
Free, transparent data on every US city — no scores, no fluff.
What is MAD?
MyAreaData (MAD) is a free resource covering 4,000+ US cities. Every page shows real data from official sources — cost of living, crime rates, jobs, climate, schools, natural disasters, air quality, demographics, healthcare, and more.
We don't manufacture scores or rank cities with proprietary algorithms. Every page lists its sources, and when a figure covers a wider area than the city (a county or metro area) or is an official estimate, the page says so.
Why we built it
Moving to a new city is one of the biggest decisions people make. Most resources either hide the data behind paywalls, wrap it in opaque “livability scores,” or bury it in ads. MAD puts the raw data front and center — for free.
The data
Most data comes from US government sources: the Census Bureau, Bureau of Labor Statistics, FBI, EPA, NOAA, FEMA, USGS, CMS, CDC, BEA, the Department of Education, and the Institute of Museum and Library Services. A few sections use other public sources: home value trends from Zillow Research and maps from OpenStreetMap data, with map tiles from OpenFreeMap and OpenMapTiles. Each source updates on its own schedule; we refresh as new releases come out.
